2022 Subaru BRZ/ 2022 Toyota GR86 Vehicle Spotlight
In late 2020, Subaru announced a new BRZ for 2022. At first glance, this chassis will be a great option for multiple disciplines of motorsports such as autocross, HPDE (High Performance Driving Events)/ road course, and drift. This new BRZ will include many welcomed features including:
- 6 Speed Manual Transmission
- Alternatively Upgraded 6 Speed Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters
- Revamped Suspension
- 2.4L naturally aspirated Subaru Boxer engine – 228HP/184Lb. Torque
- Upgraded Wheels/Brakes/Tires
Specifications
Subaru and Toyota claim the new 2022 BRZ/ GR86 chassis is significantly stiffer. Increased rigidity will yield a better performing chassis on the street and the track, through diminished flex. Torsional rigidity has increased by 50% compared to the prior gen 1 BRZ/FT86/FRS chassis. In result, a 60% increase in front lateral rigidity is experienced. From the factory the center of gravity is even lower than before. Between these improvements and the 50/50 weight distribution, we are seeing what can be describes as a “mini” supercar. With the aftermarket industry investing in this platform, suspension tuning and upgrades will yield better results for this platform. Products like our ISC coilovers for the 2022 BRZ/GR86, control arms, toe arms, and accessories will further decrease body roll, and increase handling performance.
Uses
The 2022 BRZ + GR86 is a multi disciplined weapon. You can utilize this model as a street car for commuters (getting 30 MPG), autocross, drift, time attack, HPDE, and even RWD class hill climb and rally cars. Although, it doesn’t look like we will be seeing a BRZ STi in USA. Subaru Technica International (STI) appears to be offering some STi aero components to the USDM market. These components are slowly becoming available at Subaru Dealerships and Subaru’s North American website. So what is our take at ISC Suspension? This car gets our approval.
