How to Protect Coilovers in Winter36creative2023-02-21T10:35:48-05:00

How to Protect Coilovers in Winter

Many of us all over the world have a weather preference. Some of us like it cold and dry, while others love the heat and hot sun. Regardless of your weather preference one thing is for sure: Coilovers hate the winter! The substances used to protect the roads from freezing such as salt and sand are a nightmare for coilovers. Specifically the salt, which can cause your coilovers to seize. Some like to apply a waterproof marine grease (made to resist salt water corrosion on boats) to the coilovers prior to winter, then clean it off in the spring.

Others prefer wax, clear coat sprays, or even non corrosion sprays. But these options are far from clean and can become messy. Not only do you have to apply the solution prior to winter every year, but you also need to clean off all of the solution at the end of each winter. Too many times we hear about customers with seizing issues regardless of the coilover brand. At ISC we recommend our ISC coilover covers.

Coilover covers aid in protecting your coilovers during the harsh winters. Our coilover covers are made of a thick 3mm neoprene which help shed water, eliminate sand/dirt/salt, and debris from damaging your threaded shock body and corroding your springs. They also do a great job of protecting your seals. If you are looking to reduce the likelihood of seized coilovers our coilover covers are a great choice. Our covers are available in 300mm and 370mm lengths.

Installation is quite simple and straight forward. Simply wrap the cover around the coilover ensuring everything is covered and not exposed to the elements. Then velcro the cover closed, adjust if necessary to ensure there is a firm fit. Here is a how to video on installing our ISC coilover covers:
