What is Autocross?
Have you ever been stuck in traffic, or going through a construction zone and been tempted to weave in and out of the cones? If the answer is yes, then autocross might be for you! At an autocross event, you can LEGALLY swerve in and out of cones, because the whole track is made out of them! Autocross keeps you on your toes, developing key car control skills while minimizing the risks of damaging your car from flying off track. Autocross is usually a low-cost event that might run you around $40 or $50 per day. There are many many classes and your runs will be timed. Some organizations even teach an autocross school, that give beginners the basic tools needed to go through an entire autocross course on their own.
Sometimes, Autocross can take place on a track. Usually, cones are set up in an irregular pattern, not allowing you to take full advantage of the normal racing line, but allowing you time on a track to gain comfortability and familiarity.
You can compete against others, or choose to use your timed runs to set benchmarks for yourself. Autocross is a great building block on your way to attending a full open track day.
What is HPDE?
HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience) is an awesome stepping stone into attending full open track days. Using your own car, you will have an in-car coach as well as classroom instruction on the basics of track driving. From brake points to cornering, an HPDE session will prepare you for a solo adventure to a track day. Many HPDE track events will be organized by skill level, allowing beginners, intermediate and advanced drivers all a chance to be on track with people of similar rank to keep the track flowing and safe.
Suspension Upgrade for Track Use
Stock suspension can feel a bit boaty hustling around a racetrack. With some proper suspension to keep your car flat around the corner, your car will feel like a rocket on rails, cutting your lap times down lap by lap.
